Ontario Auto Insurance Reform - Impact on You

The Ontario Government recently legislated changes to the standard automobile policy in our Province.  As of September 1, 2010, these changes will affect Statutory Accident Benefits available under your Policy.

For renewals on or after September 1, 2010 – your standard statutory accident benefits coverages will be reducedYou have the option of purchasing enhanced statutory accident benefits for renewals September 1, 2010 onwards.

Your provincial government is implementing these reforms with the goal of controlling claim costs thereby stabilizing premiums.  These changes are geared towards long term rate stability and will not result in immediate price reductions.

Please see Providing More Choice to Consumers that outlines how exactly the Statutory Accident Benefits are going to change and what coverage options you now have.

If you are covered under an Employee Benefits Plan – please do not assume it will cover the options available to you via these Enhanced Statutory Accident Benefits.  Our research suggests that beyond any Short Term or Long Term Disability Insurance you might have – your Employee Benefits Plan will likely NOT address the remaining options provided here.

To execute your coverage intentions, please complete our Ontario Automobile Optional Accident Benefits Confirmation Form and fax/email it back to us.  Additional premiums will apply.

To control your premium – may we also suggest considering a Direct Compensation-Property Damage Deductible on coverage to repair the auto of the driver who is not-at-fault when you have an at fault accident.  Please call your Account Manager at HUNTERS for a quote.

Yours truly,
